Velan Studios announced that Knockout City is shutting down later this year on June 6, a little over 2 years after the game’s initial launch, and the game will launch Season 9, its final season on February 28.
In a video posted by Jeremy Russo the game’s director, he detailed the state of Knockout City and how it was an incredibly successful game with over 12 million players.
But the developers struggled to update and maintain the game in a way that could keep retaining its large player count, and thus decided to take a step back and go back to innovating. This means the developer will be working on a new project, and so they will be shutting down Knockout City.
Thankfully, the game will still be playable and exist in its Private Hosted Server edition, which will let players host their own sessions of Knockout City and join others, and will be completely free to play.
This is such an incredible move from the developers as it’s often the case that many online games will cease to exist after the developers shut it down, but this gives fans a way to continue to play the game indefinitely into the future.
